A scary gas leak in the Northern Beach area
Tiff had bought the house six months back. The only reason she could afford it was because the previous owner had lost his job. He was unable to pay the mortgage and wanted to sell the house in a hurry so he could limit his losses. She had been thrilled with her purchase. The house was small but compact. She had taken her time with it but she had renovated the house bit by bit before moving in.
Weeks after moving in, disaster had struck. The gas company had informed her that there was a leak in the house. They had checked the house and they could not identify the source. The one thing they assured her was that it was NOT coming from any of the appliances. That meant the gas leak was in the piping.
Now, the scary part was that the piping ran through her drywall. She knew that the easiest way to identify the leak (as far as the tradesman was concerned) was to rip open the drywall and check for leak. But, that would mean losing thousands of dollars in cutting the wall open and subsequent repairs. Already, she was running very low on cash. What could she do?
That evening, she spoke to her brother. Paul was into building construction work. He was an electrician and he was the only person Tiffany could call. Paul listened to her patiently. Then, he gave her the number of a plumber from the Northern Beaches. And these guys do plumbing work in Balgowlah, Manly, Dee Why and Narrabeen. So, they have a lot of experience and they’ll help you through this without ripping open the house. Trust me, have a good night’s sleep and call them in the morning.”
Tiffany did as he had suggested. The next morning, the plumber from the Northern Beaches came for the preliminary inspection. He had some gadgets with him that he used all along the piping in the house. He checked all the appliances and the garage. Then, he gave her the news. The leak was coming from an elbow within the kitchen wall.
Once they had identified the source of the leak, the plumber quickly got to work to fix the leak. The cut was small and precise. They did a thorough job, cleaning up everything before they wrapped up.
Tiffany was so relieved that she thanked the plumber and got his card so she could call them in case of other plumbing emergencies. She thanked her lucky stars that Paul knew the right person to call when she had a plumbing emergency.
